Why WPM and not keystrokes per minute?

WPM (using 5 characters = 1 word) is the standard comparable metric across typing tests.

Should I use a physical keyboard?

For comparable desktop norms, yes. Mobile on-screen keyboards are stored as a separate input class.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

Typing Speed measures words per minute and character accuracy on a real typing task — a direct benchmark of keyboard fluency.

Type the shown text exactly as written. The timer starts on your first keystroke. Backspace is allowed. The default run is 60 seconds.

Net WPM = correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ elapsed minutes. We also show accuracy, errors and consistency. Prompt and locale are stored with your result.

Keyboard, layout familiarity and text difficulty all affect WPM. This is a utility benchmark (Evidence C).
